Howdy 👋

Below is a sample of my most relevant work in game design, art and interactive installations.

Tony Block’s Faux Skater (2020) - A low poly riff on 90s skateboarding games stemming from the fact that I thought most trick names were complete jokes. Part randomly generated jargon, all vibes - this game set out to get retweeted just once by Tony Hawk himself, but he didn’t bite; therefore the game is an abject failure.

Kind of a Big Dill (Permanent Installation, 2022, Oklahoma Contemporary, Open Worlds, 2021) - an infinite runner installed at a local bar that requires three people to control a single character. Abilities and movement are spread across the room in such a way that a minimum of three people is required to make any progress at all, encouraging individuals to team up with other patrons. The game debuted in Cincinnati in 2019, traveled to the Oklahoma Contemporary in 2021, and was revised and permanently installed at Homemakers in 2022. Read more about it here.

Play it at HomeMakers Bar - 39 E 13th St, Cincinnati, OH 45202

LootHead (TBA) - an endless isometric dungeon looter that gives in to the treasure box mentality of RPGs while denying any long lasting collecting by maintaining a one-shot durability system.

If There Was a Horizon, Then It’d be Just Beyond That (2021) - A looping, 6-Degrees-of-Freedom game about the asynchronous passage and experience of time. Players live a full life, aging at fluctuating rates. Common activities include walking, traveling, talking, cooking, sleeping, drifting, thinking, or doing nothing. There are no win or lose scenarios; while there are certain milestones to achieve, there are significantly more quirks that passively occur, frequently without fanfare. On their 100th birthday, the player dies and starts over.

It’s Just You and Me Bucko (2022) - A digital space to acknowledge and block intrusive thoughts by simplifying my interactivity to a single button press. Players (me) press the Head Empty button any time they’re compelled to do so. A timer keeps track of your time in between presses. Mush speaks to you with prompts that differ depending on how long you are able to go in between presses.

Junk Drawer Starter Kit (2022). Need help planning your own Midwestern Junk Drawer? Or are you just out of the house and feeling a little lonely, being that far away from your source of power? Use this as a planning tool to start your own space of shame.

BreakNeck (video, 2022)

300dpi Memento Mori (Windows, 2022) - Experiencing loss that's weighed down by the largest scanner I've ever personally owned. Run this game in the background as a constant reminder of your mortality, and my increasingly large familial digital footprint.

Fortune Cookie (2022)

When, suddenly, the room appeared (2019) - a game about navigating spatial conflation by folding experiences on top of one another.

A Room in Your House for Space Travel (2019) - a touch screen adventure about teleportation and time travel.

CincyFlags (2017-2019) - a wildly ambitious and slightly misguided attempt to rally Cincinnati neighborhoods and designers behind community-based flag designs. CincyFlags saw the creation of 52 original flag designs based on feedback and design workshops attended by local residents. The end result, despite the protracted timeline, is a completely open source series of designs and assets open for anyone to use for whatever purpose they see fit.

Double Bubble (2021) - a prototype of an educational installation where ingredients are gathered in the physical world and brewed in the digital.

Insights: Call // Response (2021) - a web archive and means of exploring the evolving conversation of work between six interdisciplinary artists.

Dungeon Generator (2020) - a simple wandering simulator that allows players to explore randomly generated dungeons.

HCBOSS (2018) - a “competitive” VR game where players see a game space and audience members see the scoreboard. Arbitrary actions result in arbitrary scores.

Strike Anywhere Gallery (2018-2019) - A physical gallery curated by me and Matt Branham. During its run, we curated solo shows for Kristin Lucas, Pippin Barr, Sara Ludy, and more.
